Building program to develop the skills of the use of educational technology equipment in the light of modern teaching strategies
Abstract
Developing a Programme for the Effective Use of the Apparatuses of Education Technology in the Light of Modern Teaching Strategies
The objectives of the Study:
1.To identify the training requirements for the students of Education Faculties in the use of the devices of education technology as advocated by the experts in the field of curricula, teaching methods and education technology.
2.To propose a training programme for the students of the Faculties of Education in the effective use of the devices of the educational technology in the light of modern teaching methods.
To achieve these desired objectives, the researcher has adopted the descriptive, surveying methods in order to gain proficient responses from the teaching staff of curricula, teaching methodology and education technology in the use of the apparatuses of the education technology. To provide answers to the research questions, the selection of the appropriate tool for developing the proposed training programme in the use of education technology was an essential prerequisite. Thus, the researcher has designed questionnaires to ease and facilitate understanding and interaction on the part of the respondents. In the next stage, the researcher has presented them to refereed professionals in the fields of education technology, curricula, and teaching methods in the Yemeni public universities as well as the Egyptian public ones for the sake of acquainting them with the responses, seeking their feedback and discussing and merging the repeated skills for the operation and use of each apparatus provided the addition of a tenth domain known as the "the General Skills" of the devices of education technology which have developed into the following skills: Over Head Projector, Slides Projector, Computer, Internet Network, Data Show Projector, Instructional TV, Video Cassette, Video Disc
CD/DVD and Documentary Camera.
The tool has been identified in its final shape, distributed to specialists in the teaching field, and kept a continued communication with the concerned speacialists and educationalists. In consequence of the spacio-temporal circumstances and after a constant follow-up, the researcher managed in getting hold of 17 questionnaires, which form the number of experts consulted in the respective fields. Then, the validity of the study tool has been verified by presenting the same to a referred group of experts in the field. The tool has also been tested for its constancy. The study has also made best use of SPSS software for handling statistical operations by extracting the value of the constancy factor in the testing of Cronbach which has amounted in the aggregate to (0.87) in the general skills of the use of education technology. This constancy range is found fittingly high for the study tool; thus, the appropriate statistical operations for this study have been dealt with as follows: the arithmetic mean, the standard deviation, the percentage, and rank toward presenting, explicating, elucidating, and discussing the relevant results. The study also has discussed and reviewed all the previous, relevant literature.
The proposed training programme can be summarised as:
- The data of the study tool have been entered into the computer memory and were analysed by the use of the SPSS software in order to handle the experts' estimations in the teaching field, their forethoughts in terms of the students' training needs in the Faculty of Education in the use of the devices of the education technology and the employment of the technological devices in the design and planning, and the principles on which this proposed programme is constructed.
- The preparation of the programme includes: the statement of the ten general objectives for ten training plans; the 108 behavioural objectives which vary from one plan to another; the learning and education tasks and activities; the steps for the achievement of the general objectives which reached up to approximately 767 steps accompanied by the several training and education strategies; the practical feedback from the trainer; the illustrative presentation; the practical presentation for skills from part to whole; the teacher trainees practicum in groups or singles; the exceptional training and their performance of observed skills and the distribution of tasks assigned to them by the trainer as well as the appliances of the education technology accompanying the education and training process; the methods of collecting representative samples of learners in large groups, medium groups or small groups; the oral evaluating activities to the trainer's training skills and testing the performance of the training skills and the steps required for their execution.
- The proposition of a time schedule for the ten training plans which form the training programme as a whole for the operation and use of education technology apparatuses, the number of the training sessions, the applied hours for training, day and date from Saturday, (06 \ 03 \ 200..) to Saturday,( 24 \ 04 \ 200..) .
In the light of the results arrived at by the researcher, he concludes:
- The results have shown agreement, among experts in the teaching field, in the importance of developing skills in the use of the apparatuses of education technology with its ten domains.
- The results have also shown, among experts in the teaching field, in the importance of the development of operating skills as well as the use of the apparatuses of education technology with the several training abilities.
- The results have shown no discrepancies among experts in the important effect in the use of technology devices.
- The results drawn from the expert's estimations and responses have ranged from 'very large' to 'large' emphasising the crucial role played in training and promoting students' skills in the Faculties of Education.
- The results of the experts' estimations have proved the importance of training programmes for teacher trainees' input which are known as observation and modelling.
Some of the researcher's recommendations are:
- The necessity of invigorating the role of the Faculties of Education through the studied programmes which are offered to students, reconsidering the courses of education aids and technology, introducing more courses on the respective field, and concentrating on the applied and practical aspect in the use and operation of apparatuses.
- The possibility of benefiting from this programme in the institutions for preparing and qualifying teacher trainees in the Faculties of Education, particularly in the University of Thamar, the Institutes and Centres, and in general in the Faculties of Education in the Yemeni Universities where every apparatus represents a training programme in its own as illuminated by the training plans in this study
