    ABSTRACT:

    The student/teachers acquiring of high grades in the subjects that he/she studies does not necessarily mean that he/she is a successful teacher since he\she may not able to perform in his/ her job successfully.

    In as much as faculties of education and teacher training institutes are able to equip the student/teacher with the required pedagogical and methodological skills and abilities yet they are not fully convinced of their fulfilling the educational aims in a true sense in keeping with the changing and ever-developing need of the society. Thus it is not sufficient to provide the theoretical background in order to succeed in teaching and acquiring its fundamental skills but true success is acquired through practical experience and actual teaching in the fold.

    Hence practical education was and will remain the corner stone in the process of recruiting the teacher and through it the student/teacher will be able to acquire the necessary teaching skills.

    This study aimed at:

    - Establishing a practical education programmed for the students of Arabic language in the faculty of education/Eden.

    - Funding the effect of the proposed program for practical education in the performance of the subject of the study and then teaching skills to achieve the second aim the following hypothesis was formed.

    - There is no marked statistical difference between the mean of the performance of the mean of the performance of the controlled group.

    The research was conducted on the subjects from the Arabic department in the faculty of education (Aden for the year 2003-2004). These subjects were divided randomly into two groups-the experimental group consisting of 24 student/teachers and the controlled group consisting of 26 student/teachers.

    The research designed the following research techniques:

    a) The proposed teaching program for the practical education which consisted of two parts: theory and practice. The validity

    and reliability of the proposed program was achieved by showing it to experts in the field of the education and methodology. This step also provided a preliminary evaluation for the proposed program.

    b) An observation form to measure required teaching skills of the student / teachers and there skills consisted of lesson planning, setting teaching aims/objectives, implementing the lesson plan and evaluating the lesson. This observation form consisted of 30 points of five alternatives each.

    The proposed program was implemented in the first semester of the year 2003-2004 and was evaluated through:

    - The practical use of the observation forms in the evaluating students performance during their teaching practice period.

    The data were their subjected to a T-test for both groups. The results showed a marked statistical difference in the means of the true groups and were in the favor of the experimental group.

    This step was followed by a discussion with the student / teachers after they returned form teaching practice and this provided a final evaluation for the proposed program.

    On the basis of these findings the researcher made the following recommendation:

    1. The implementing of the proposed program in this study as a prescribed course for practical education in both its forms-theory and practice in the faculties of education.

    2. The setting up of a practical education center to coordinate the affairs relating to practical education and to contribute in solving the problem and this center should be controlled and administered specialized professors in the field.
